ABOUT KARIN WILLIAMS

Karin Williams (pronounced Kah rin) a vocalist, music educator, and entrepreneur. Born on the island of Jamaica into a large musical family, she immersed herself in the exotic rhythms of the island during her youth.

After relocating to the United States, she performed on the reggae circuit, sharing the stage with luminaries like Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse, Shaba Ranks and The Wailers, Occasionally performing under the alias Darcia Rhu in honor of her father.  Her musical evolution continued on the East Coast, where performed with popular R&B dance bands before co-founding the reggae duo "D’luxx." The duo's album, "Mission Accomplished," marked a triumphant chapter in Williams' career, landing them on reggae charts and fulfilling childhood dreams.

A harmonious twist awaited as Williams joined the Latin Jazz band "Espada." Under the guidance of maestros like Warren Byrd and trumpeters William Fluker and Ray Santiago, she became the group's dynamic lead vocalist, enchanting audiences with songs in both English and Spanish.

Her love of music led to the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans, where she immersed herself in the vibrant music scene. Studying under jazz legends like Ellis Marsalis Jr., Harold Battiste, Terrence Blanchard, and Leah Chase, she earned a formal music degree from the University of New Orleans.

Williams soon became a popular fixture on the New Orleans music scene, performing at the crescent city’s premiere jazz clubs, festivals, and at the prestigious New Orleans Ritz-Carlton, where she was a featured artist for over four years.

While at the Ritz, Williams’ loyal fan base reached far beyond the US borders and prompted the release of the “Karin Williams” debut CD, which featured jazz, bossa nova, and samba selections from her repertoire of Gershwin, Jobim, and Ellington.  The CD was well received and showcased some of New Orleans finest musicians, saxophonist, Brice Winston, trumpeter, Christian Scott, bassist, David Pulphus, guitarist, John Bagnato, pianist, Darrell Lavigne, flutist, Hart McNee, and drummer, Troy Davis.

Relocating to the Atlanta area in 2004, Williams opened an artist development/music studio, nurturing aspiring talents, providing  music programs and leaving an indelible mark on the community. Her return to the stage promises a musical feast—a fusion of jazz, samba, and dash of Jamaican spice—
